AWO Partnership for Stop Falls Overboard

We Work the Waterways is collaborating with AWO to help promote the importance of safety while working on the water.

Falls overboard remain one of the most serious risks facing maritime workers, but they are preventable. On August 28, AWO is calling on companies across the tugboat, towboat, and barge industry to pause operations, gather their crews, and take part in a Falls Overboard Safety Standdown. On August 28, U.S. tugboat, towboat, and barge companies will pause briefly to discuss falls overboard prevention and safety with vessel crews and stakeholders.

Participants will:

• Review falls overboard prevention procedures with crew;
• Reinforce safe deck behavior, buddy systems, fall restraint use, and proper PPE; and
• Encourage mariners to post to social media about their discussion using the hashtag #StopFallsOverboard to show industry unity and raise awareness.
