We Work the Waterways Partners with Illinois River Cities and Towns Initiative to Support Workforce Development

Communities along the Illinois River are working together to strengthen regional economic development and expand workforce opportunities. As highlighted in recent coverage by Starved Rock Media, mayors and community leaders gathered to discuss potential economic development and training opportunities throughout the region.

We Work the Waterways is proud to be part of these efforts through a new partnership with the Illinois River Cities and Towns Initiative (IRCTI). WWW Board President Seth Lawson signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of We Work the Waterways, alongside IRCTI Executive Director Anshu Singh, formalizing the partnership between the two organizations.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting the communities, industries, and workforce that keep our waterways moving. By strengthening connections between local leaders, educational institutions, and maritime industry partners, initiatives like this can help expand awareness of career opportunities and support the development of a skilled workforce.

From vessel operations and port management to logistics, shipyard operations, and technology, the maritime industry offers a wide range of career pathways. Through collaboration with organizations like IRCTI, We Work the Waterways continues to advance its mission of connecting people with these opportunities and building a strong, sustainable maritime workforce.
