October 6th Maritime Interaction Days Receive News Coverage
Yesterday, We Work the Waterways brought maritime career exploration to students in two different cities with Maritime Interaction Days in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
While the events took place hundreds of miles apart, both shared the same goal: helping students discover the many career opportunities available across the maritime, shipping, and logistics industries.
In New Orleans, students had the opportunity to learn more about the maritime industry through hands-on activities, conversations with industry professionals, and interactive experiences designed to show how a variety of careers connect to our nation’s waterways. From vessel operations to shoreside careers, students were able to see that there is much more to the maritime industry than meets the eye.
In Tulsa, students gathered at the Tulsa Port of Catoosa for a day of interactive demonstrations and hands-on learning. Students from Daniel Webster High School, Verdigris Public Schools, Catoosa High School, Sequoyah Public Schools, Claremore, Chelsea High School, Owasso Ram Academy, and East Central High School participated in the event. The day was hosted in partnership with the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and gave students the opportunity to explore a variety of maritime career pathways.
The Tulsa event also received coverage from FOX23 and KTUL, helping shine an even brighter spotlight on the importance of introducing students to maritime careers and the opportunities available within the industry.
Hosting two Maritime Interaction Days in two different communities on the same day is a reflection of the growing need for maritime workforce awareness and career exploration. We are grateful to the industry professionals, educators, partners, and volunteers who continue to make these experiences possible.
Every conversation, demonstration, and hands-on activity has the potential to spark a student’s interest in a career they may have never considered before.
