We Work the Waterways’ Staff Members Errin & Pam Attend ASCA Conference

This summer, the We Work the Waterways team attended the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Conference, connecting with school counselors and educators from across the country to talk about the many career opportunities available in the maritime industry.

Errin and Pam were impressed by the engagement, curiosity, and enthusiasm from educators who were eager to learn more about what a career in the maritime industry can look like for their students. We often say, “You can’t choose a career you’ve never heard of,” which is why introducing educators to marine career opportunities is such an important part of our mission.

This year, our presence at ASCA was strengthened by board member Brandon Phillips of Riverview Companies. Brandon participated in a conference panel and led our interactive radio communications station, giving counselors a hands-on experience similar to what students encounter during our Maritime Interaction Days.

The activity highlights how communication, active listening, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential skills.

This was an amazing opportunity and an important reminder of why these conversations matter!
